Steel logistics is the specialised handling, storage and transport of steel products (coils, sheets, pipes and profiles) that are heavy, sensitive to damage and bound to production schedules. At Maasterminal Maastricht, the steel discipline runs through three specialized warehouses on the Juliana Canal inside Steelport Maastricht, with direct quay access for barges and a covered rail connection for weather-safe transfer. Cost and lead time depend on tonnage, product type, storage duration and the modalities used; around 700,000 tons cross the terminal each year.

Steel rewards specialists. A coil stored on the wrong saddle or lifted with the wrong tackle loses value invisibly, right up until it reaches the production line. Our crews work with dedicated coil equipment, high-capacity overhead cranes and storage systems built for steel, so what arrives in perfect condition leaves in perfect condition.

Through our sister company Steel Solutions BV we add contract logistics on top: stock management, order picking, cutting, packaging and labeling, down to running your warehouse operation as a subcontractor.

Steelport Maastricht

The logistics backbone of the steel cluster

Steelport Maastricht bundles the steel companies of the Beatrixhaven on one compact terrain. Inside that cluster we are the terminal: secure storage, fast transshipment and reliable coordination for clients who count their downtime in minutes.

Seventy train wagons a week roll into the covered rail connection; 156 vessels a year moor at the quay. The steel keeps moving because water, rail and road meet inside the gate.

How it works

From vessel to production line, in four steps

The same crew handles every step, so nothing gets lost between arrival and delivery. Lead time follows the modality: a truck leaves the same day, a barge or train slot is planned with you in advance.

  1. 01

    Arrival & intake

Your steel arrives by barge at the quay, by train in the covered rail connection, or by truck at the gate. Every coil, sheet, pipe or profile is checked and registered on arrival, so stock and paperwork match from minute one.

  2. 02

    Storage on steel terms

Coils rest on saddles, sheets and profiles in systems built for their weight and shape, all under high-capacity overhead cranes. Indoor where the product demands it, on the yard where it doesn't.

  3. 03

    Processing & preparation

Where your workflow asks for it, Steel Solutions BV cuts, bundles, packages and labels at the terminal, and manages stock and order picking against your production schedule.

  4. 04

    Outbound delivery

Loading onto truck, wagon or barge with steel-specific equipment and lashing, documents included. Off-hour loading is possible when you arrange it with us in advance.

Steel questions

What steel buyers ask us first

Can you receive steel by train in bad weather?

Yes. The rail connection is covered, so wagons unload indoors and weather-sensitive products such as bare coils and sheets transfer without exposure. Seventy wagons a week come through it.

What determines storage and handling costs?

Tonnage, product type, storage duration and the modalities used. Indoor storage on saddles prices differently than yard storage, and extra work such as cutting or repacking is quoted per job. Send your product list and volumes for a concrete price.

Can you run our warehouse operation for us?

Yes. Through Steel Solutions BV we act as a subcontractor for complete warehouse operations: stock management, order picking, cutting, packaging and labeling, tuned to your delivery schedule.
